Item Details
Description
Classical World, Northern Italy, Etruria, ca. 7th to 6th century BCE. A large ceramic impasto-ware skyphos with slightly upturned handles and six nipple-like projections to each side and another to each side of the handles. The body is decorated with elaborate and extensive incised geometric patterns and concentric circles. The body is bulbous, tapering to a disc foot. In contrast, the mouth flares out widely from the top of the vessel, with a thick, rolled rim. The rim and foot are the only areas of the vessel not decorated. Size: 12.5" W x 8.25" H (31.8 cm x 21 cm)

This vessel is quite reminiscent to the earlier Villanovan vessels from this area with their added barb-like extensions and is quite likely made at the end of the Villanovan, beginning of the Etruscan periods.
