A UNIQUE BRONZE DORJE, Tibet, 19th Century. The Dorje is in the style of Samye Dorje, with 8 exterior prongs and one that goes through the center totaling to 9. It is decorated with 5 human faces in the middle, 4 in same direction and one in opposite. With visible signs of use. Dorje or Vajra in Sanskrit is a symbolic Buddhist ritual instrument. The name Dorje in Tibetan is synonymous to diamond or thunderbolt. In Buddhism, the Vajra is the symbol of Vajrayana, one of the three major branches of Buddhism. Vajrayana is translated as \"Thunderbolt Way\" or \"Diamond Way\" and can imply the thunderbolt experience of Buddhist enlightenment or Bodhichitta. It also implies indestructibility. Length--12.5cm.
