A Good 19th Century Copy Of A Swiss “Holbein” Dagger In Its Pierced Cast And Chased Scabbard. The double edged spear point blade similar in shape to German SA and SS daggers which were based on the 16th century Swiss so-called Holbein daggers. The hilt, grip, and pommel are cast and chased in one piece with the cross guard and pommel cast in extremely high relief. The scabbard is cast, pierced and chased with battle scenes in relief. A number of period “Holbein” dagger scabbards depict the “Totentanz” or “Dance of Death”. Originals of this rare and most desirable dagger sell in five figures. Estimate: 400-800.
