A Roman carnelian intaglio with a reclining youth, c. 2nd - 3rd Century AD, perhaps a shepherd resting on his crook, beneath a tree bearing fruit, looking over his shoulder. On the back side of the intaglio is an inscription, IAW. 16 x 12.5mm. Intact and a nice intaglio. Ex Hamdy Sakr collection, London, acquired in the 1960's - 1970's.
