John Rettig, Cincinnati (1855-1932), titled "The Haven of Wolendam". John studied at The Cincinnati Art Academy with Frank Duveneck & Edward Potthast, worked at Rookwood Pottery. Oil on wood panel harbor scene with sailboats, signed lower left John Rettig/V.D. 1905 and period inked inscription on back reading: The Haven of Wolendam/To M.Y. Dunpher/by John Rettig/April 1oth 1906, 13 x 9 1/4" in original frame, 18 1/4 x 14 3/4". Lot also includes a real photo post card of artist in studio with inked inscription along lower margin: Rgards from John Rettig/Volindan Sept. 1907 with German canceled stamp and address in Cincinnati. Condition Fine.
