The lot features a set of hard soled hide beaded women's moccasins attributed to the Crow Native American Indians of Montana from the 19th Century. The set shows an Indian tanned hide with parfleche rawhide soles, which are all sinew sewn, and a trade cloth ankle. The moccasins are done in a geometric pattern beadwork in all period correct 19th Century glass trade seed beads. The beadwork includes colors of Cheyenne pink, greasy yellow, light blue, red white hearts, cobalt, and semi-transparent green. The set shows some very slight bead loss and a crack and hole in the sole. The bottom of one of the moccasins is marked in marker by a previous collector, "Crow Ag. Montana Women's". The marking on the sole is referring to the Crow Indian Agency of Montana. "Crow Agency" as a term has been widely accepted since the 1860's and was first officially the Crow Agency due to the Fort Laramie "Treaty with the Crows, 1868”, which established the Agency circa 1869-1874 outside Livingston, Montana and known as Fort Parker. Truly a wonderful set of Montana Crow beadwork. Each moccasin measures 10.5"L across the sole by 4.25"W.
