circa 1820. The well decorated with a portrait of Alexis Claude Clairaut, artist signed within a gilt-edged roundel numbered 27. The faux lapis lazuli border with palmette and meander bands. Inscribed in purple to the reverse 'Clairaut (alexis claude) mathematicien, ne a Paris. 18 me Siecle'
