Description
Elvis Presley Honeymoon Home Exhibit Framed Pair of Photos Signed by Dick Grob and Darlene Tompkins From the Estate of Robert Alexander - This pair of framed photographs picture Elvis Presley with Dick Grob and Darlene Tompkins, and was acquired from the collection of the infamous Elvis Presley "honeymoon home" where Elvis and Priscilla Presley famously spent their honeymoon in Palm Springs, California. The celebrated home was built in 1960 by Robert Alexander and is one of the most photographed and architecturally significant properties in the US. The 5,000 sq. ft. mid-century modern home was a pioneering architectural masterpiece, dubbed "The House of Tomorrow" by Look Magazine, and achieved worldwide notoriety in 1966 when Elvis leased the estate. It is said that, "on May 1, 1967, Elvis and Priscilla slipped out of the house in the middle of the night in order to evade the watchful eye of Hollywood gossip reporter Rona Barrett." They jetted to Las Vegas for their wedding and returned later the same day to their "Honeymoon Hideaway" for a wedding reception and extended honeymoon stay. The home was later restored by Alexander to look as it did when the Presley's enjoyed it in the 1960's, and Priscilla was so enamored with the living room design that she created two of the most expensive suites at the Graceland Hotel as replicas of the Hideaway. The house, which had been open to the public, was sold in 2020 and the contents which were part of the Alexander Estate, were sold at auction. The items included assorted Elvis memorabilia, furniture, framed Elvis photographs, movie posters, clothing, sneakers, plaques, guitars and assorted ephemera. These photos are signed by Dick Grob, who was working as a police officer in Palm Springs and was assigned to provide protection to Elvis while there with Priscilla on their honeymoon, and Darlene Tompkins who was Elvis' co-star "Patsy Simon" in the 1961 film "Blue Hawaii." This item will come with a copy of the previous auction invoice. Measurements: 12"x18".
