This is a copy image of the famous, well-known Portrait of Lincoln, taken by T.P. Parson in Macomb, IL, on August 26, 1858, when Abe Lincoln was 49 years old, on the day before his debate with Stephen Douglas in Freeport, IL. An impressive Beardless Abraham Lincoln shown in a Colorized Portrait glass slide measuring 3.25" x 4" and labeled: "Abraham Lincoln, 1858. - From Curtis, 'True Abraham Lincoln." Abe Lincoln is shown with his tousled hair and beardless face, and stares directly into the camera. The image itself measures 2.25" x 1.75."
The magic lantern is an early type of image projector employing pictures painted, printed or produced photographically on transparent plates (usually made of glass), one or more lenses, and a light source.
It was mostly developed in the 17th century and commonly used for entertainment purposes. It was increasingly applied to educational purposes during the 19th century. The magic lantern was in wide use from the 18th century until the mid-20th century.
