1775-Dated, French Document from the Reign of Louis XVI entitled, "ELECTION DE TONNERRE", Extremely Fine.
This Partially-Printed Document measures about 7.5" x 4.5" and features heavily embossed bold printing on fine quality laid period paper. This appears to be a tax receipt from the French Commune of Tonnerre ("Election de Tonnerre" translates into English as "Thunder Election", but that is clearly not appropriate here). In this case, Mr. Patriellat paid the sum of 20 Livres and 18 Sols in tax, boldly signed with his flourish by the tax collector. "Tonnerre" is a commune in the Yonne department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comt in north-central France. There is no doubt that tax funds were in demand to support the French military due to continued threat and conflicts with Britain as the active fighting in the American Revolutionary War began.
