Pair of vintage perforated ceramic pendant wall sconces by acclaimed San Antonio maker Beaumont Mood, glazed accents
14"h x 7.5"w x 6"d/ each
Provenance: A San Antonio, TX Collection
Martha Mood (1908-1972), artist, photographer and teacher was born in Oakland, California on June 21 1908. She would later study art at the University of California at Berkeley where she became familiar with Byzantine art and the work of Henri Matisse- both of whom can be seen as a large influence in her later work. After the war, she married Beaumont Mood and settled in Dallas, Texas and soon after moved to San Antonio, where she worked as an art teacher at the San Antonio Art Institute. After a successful collaboration with architect O'Neil Ford, she established a business in which she produced light fixtures, fountains, pottery and other architectural design objects. Her work has been exhibited in the Witte Museum, McNay Museum, the San Antonio Art League, Trinity University and numerous private collections of prominent Texans. The largest collection of her work remains in the Henderson Gallery in Monterey, California.
