Antique French figural cast bronze portrait sculpture of Classical Greek Canephore (maiden, or woman, bearing a basket on her head in an early Greek religious festival) with pierced and gilt basket, seated on black marble base and signed Louis Valentin Elias Robert, circa 1860.Measures: 18" height x 5" diameter.Biography:Louis Valentin Elias Robert (1821-1874)French sculptor born in Etampes June 6, 1821, died in Paris April 29, 1874), Robert follows the teaching of David d'Angers and James PradierHe begins to exhibit at the Salon of 1845.He receives many commissions for the Louvre Palace: Rabelais; Jacques Heart; Science; Industry The music; Phryne; a group of Cariatides then works for the Paris Opera (Cariatides), the Théâtre du Châtelet (Drama), the station Austerlitz (Agriculture: Industry), the Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (Vaucanson, Serres) , the Commercial Court (The Law), the Gathered Shops (Agriculture - Industry).He is also the author of the statue of Geoffroy Saint Hilaire (Etampes), Marshal Jourdan (Limoges) and Pedro IV (Lisbon, Portugal).He is decorated with the Legion of Honor in 1858.

Overall very good condition with even patina and only a few marble flea bites.
