Description
1877 1ed Autobiography of THE Uncle Tom SLAVERY Beecher Stowe Josiah Henson
“A moral battle cry for freedom!”
– Langston Hughes on Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
No other work of literature helped lay the groundwork for the American Civil War quite like Harriet Beecher Stowe’s ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin.’ In turn, many historians have ‘credited’ this novel with being the contributing factor to the Civil War. This incredible story portrays slave families being torn apart through being sold and resold by slave masters.
The popularity of ‘Uncle Tom’ reached to many different venues and authors including famed abolitionist minister Josiah Henson. Henson created a literary character based on himself and the title character from Stowe’s ‘Uncle Tom’. In fact, Henson’s own nickname was Uncle Tom. His autobiography is a slave narrative describing his escape from slavery, feeling to Canada for freedom, and countless stories of personal injustices.
This 1877 edition was edited by John Lobb and contains a preface by Harriet Beecher Stowe!
