Northern Europe, Anglo-Saxon or Viking / Norse culture, ca. 6th to 12th century CE. A beautiful silver and gold alloy pendant with a hammered, crescent form. The composition is 67% silver and 28% gold. The piece is cut and stamped to form the slightly raised motifs that consist of triangular patterns on the frontside. An integral suspension loop is connected at the center between the inward curving arms. The pendant is wearable and strung on a modern cord with a silver-plated lobster clasp. This lunar symbol was popular in the post-Roman and Migration era world. Though its true meaning to later cultures is unknown, it perhaps draws inspiration from ancient deities such as Diana and Selene.
