Hand–colored engraving (image 495 x 584 mm) of eastern Canada and the Great Lakes region showing the FIRST APPEARANCE OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN ON A MAP (1703 issue), decorative cartouche. First published in 1703, De l’Isle and his father found details included in this map in the writings of Lahontan, Joliet, and the Jesuits later selling the plates to Covens and Mortier who reprinted them from 1722 to 1733.
