Description
This lot consists of an unframed gouache illustration on paper, done in the Tachisme style of Jean Fautrier (French, 1898-1964). This dynamic abstraction features beautiful gestures of emerald greens, deep sapphire blues, and vivid whites. A handwritten graphite inscription at lower right corner reads, "Fautrier". A strong addition to any collection of modern art. Unframed dimensions approximately 14" x 9".
Jean Fautrier (French, 1898-1964) was a painter, illustrator, sculptor, and printmaker, and a lead member of the Tachisme art movement. Fautrier first exhibited his paintings in the early 1920s, but it was not until the 1940s, when he moved to Paris, that Fautrier's art career really began to progress. His late work became increasingly abstract and small-scale. He often created mixed media pieces on paper, and won the grand prize at the Venice Biennale in 1960.
