Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Mayan Territories, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. This is fine group of 4 beautiful greenstone and jade pendant beads from ancient Mesoamerica. Three are naturally shaped beads, uncut, only polished and hand-drilled laterally through the center. The fourth stone has been string-cut to create attenuated grooves and shallow circular shapes, perhaps depicting a stylized face. Greenstone and jade were prized materials for their lovely green hues and their fertility symbolism in ancient Maya culture. All are pierced for suspension and could be made wearable as individual pendants or strung with other ancient beads! Size of each (all are relatively similar): 1.8" W x 1.5" H (4.6 cm x 3.8 cm)
Provenance: ex-Historia Gallery, James Caswell collection, Santa Monica, California, USA, before 2010
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.
