About the artist: Born February 18, 1894 in the village of Gadovo, Ostrovsky district of the Pskov province [1] in a peasant family. After graduating from the village school and the Pskov teacher’s seminary, he headed the Talab two-year school in the Pskov province (1914-1916). At the same time he attended evening drawing courses at an art and craft school. He participated in the First World War, served as a topographer at the headquarters of the 74th division on the Austro-Hungarian front. After the revolution in 1919-1920 he was in the Red Army in Turkestan.
In 1922 he entered the Leningrad VKHUTEMAS, studied with A. A. Rylov and A. I. Vakhromeev. In 1926 he graduated from the institute, presenting his thesis - the picture "Carpenter" and the sketch "1925. Emancipation of women of the East ”[3].
Along with his studies at the institute and after graduation, he taught at art studios in a number of institutions and organizations of Leningrad. Participant of exhibitions since 1927. He worked mainly in easel painting. He painted genre and battle paintings, portraits. Most of the work was devoted to the work on the images of A. S. Pushkin and S. M. Kirov. Author of the paintings “Konesovkhoz”, “Kudymkar tract”, “The road to the grave of A. S. Pushkin” (all 1936), “A. S. Pushkin's funeral in the Svyatogorsky monastery” (1937), “Removal of the coffin with the body of A. S. Pushkin before being sent to the village of Mikhailovskoye "," S. M. Kirov in the Khibiny ”(both 1937),“ Crossing Sivash ”,“ Storming of Perekop ”,“ Stalin on the cruiser Chervona Ukraine ”(all 1939),“ The funeral of V. I. Lenin ”(1940). The main works of Vasily Fedorov were acquired by museums, repeatedly published in print and reproduced in mass editions.
After the outbreak of World War II, Fedorov Vasily Fedorovich remained in Leningrad, participated in the production of propaganda posters “Fighting Pencil”. He died on February 19, 1942, and was buried in the Wolf Cemetery. His works are in the State Russian Museum, in other museums of St. Petersburg, as well as Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Pushkin and other cities.
