18th C. French Sevres Hand Painted Cobalt Blue Grounded Depicting Portrait Of Marguerite de Lussan. BLUE INTERLACED L'S ENCLOSING DATE LETTER "B" FOR "1754". D 9.3/4". About Marguerite de Lussan (1682-1758): French novelist and short-story writer. Born 1682 in Paris, France; died May 31, 1758; believed to be the illeg. dau. of Thomas of Savoy, Comte de Soisson, who provided for her education. Noted for her intellect, wrote 1st novel L'Histoire de la comtesse de Gondez (The Life of the Countess de Gondez, 1725), followed by a collection of fairytales, Les Veillees de Thessalie (Evenings in Thessaly, 1731); historical works include Anecdotes de la cour de Childeric (1736), Anecdotes de la cour de Francois Ier (1748), Histoire et regne de Charles VI (1953), Histoire de la revolution du royaume de Naples (1757), and Vie de Louis Bable Bertonde Crillon (1757); had many famous friends, including Le Huet and Prince Eugene of Savoy.
