John James Audubon Portrait 

Oil on canvas, 19th Century, an unsigned portrait of avian artist John James Audubon, almost certainly after the well-known engraving by Alonzo Chappel (American, 1828-1887), who produced one of the only known images of Audubon. The engraving was not widely distributed; 30 x 25 in. 

Provenance: Property of Caswell and Sara Lane

Condition:

The varnish has darkened, and there are some spots and soiled areas. The painting has not been previously conserved. Clean under blacklight.
