Description
Italian States, Genoa. 1694 ITC Silver 2 Scudi (Dav-LS533, KM-82, 2.1722 oz ASW). The obverse depicts the Madonna and Child floating in the clouds with two angels and stars above; the reverse bears an ornate cross with cherub heads and wings in the angles. NGC XF40 and a simply splendid example of this massive early Italian silver issue. The color is a wholly natural Medium grey, and the surface quality is remarkably smooth for a coin of this hefty size and weight. Extremely scarce and well deserving of a home in an advanced European coinage collection. This is the only example of this date that has been graded by NGC, and it is one of a paltry seven coins that NGC has graded of ALL DATES of this entire denomination! The only other coin of this date that we could trace was graded "good EF" and brought $2400 plus the buyer's premium in an April 2008 Stack's sale. Est. $1900.
