Description
A Possible Renaissance Copy of an excessively rare Four Seasons Bronze Medallion of Commodus (166-192 AD) and either Minerva or Marcia (50.6 grams). This coin was submitted to NGC whereat it was rendered "Not Genuine". The surfaces, though clearly smoothed at one time, offer a natural medium brown patina with deeper coloration in the devices that is indicative of this coin having a significant degree of age. Moreover the style is also quite reminiscent of Renaissance artwork. The obverse features jugate heads facing right; the reverse four infants representing the four seasons. Genuine coins of this issue are Very Rare indeed, and the piece offered here represents a tempting space filler for those that cannot (or will not) pay the five-figure price necessary to secure a genuine example. SOLD AS IS WITH NO RETURNS due to its questionable nature. Est. $100.
