Description
Offered in this lot is a necklace of Russian trade beads. The necklace is made of white/clear faceted beads, cobalt blue faceted beads, black beads, and four round beads. Russian trade beads refer to a specific type of beads with multiple facets. Russian trade beads come in varying shades and hues. Russian explorers traded Russian beads to the Native Americans in Alaska and Canada starting in the 1700s. Their appeal lies in their cobalt blue color and the faceted appearance in the clear and milky ones. This strand measures 30" with 105 beads. The largest bead measures 3/8" X 3/8" and the smallest measures 1/4" X 1/4". The strand features one unique bead that is actually two black round beads that were not fully separated in the making. These beads are strung on a modern cord and show wear to be expected for their age of 200+ years.
