Description
Featured in this lot is this P.M. Kelly silver mounted steel spur pair, circa 1960's. The spurs show fantastic design and construction with swivel spur strap lugs. The outside lug shows a silver mounted button and the outside of each spur showw silver overlay, complete with floral design and silver mounting to the shank of the spurs. Pascal Kelly learned to make bits and spurs from a blacksmith in town as a way to make money for a trip to the 1904 World’s Fair from his small town in Texas. His skill at blacksmith work and bit and spur making led him to open his own shop with his brother. Eventually, he would have a short lived partnership with Clyde Parker, as well. Kelly had an outstanding ability to make or repair almost anything. He eventually found work with J.R. McChesney’s shop for a period of time. Eventually Kelly started his own business and produced an incredibly wide range of designs for both bits and spurs. The condition of this pair of spurs is good, with oxidation and patina shown slightly on the spurs. The measurements of this pair of spurs are 5 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 1".
