Condition
**The painting is probably ca. 1900, not earlier in the 18th century, as previously thought. Brass artist plaque on frame attributes the work to Alexander Roslin, but it is more likely a portrait after an unknown portrait by Roslin or by one done in the style of Roslin. The painting is in overall very good condition with no visible losses, inpainting or repairs. The painting exhibits some yellowing to the varnish, light surface soiling, and a few white specks/accretions scattered throughout. An old label on frame backing indicates frame and stretcher measurements in French.
