(Source: brierhillgallery.com) Painter, illustrator, and etcher Henry Ziegler was born in Sherman, Texas. He studied at the Art Students League in New York, where he studied etching with Joseph Pennell and painting with William R. Leigh. He is best known for his western etchings, illustrations, and paintings. His commissions included a series of forty-nine etchings for the 1927 book Cowboy Stuff, published in a first edition of 12 copies and a trade edition of 500 copies in 1928. His etchings were exhibited at the art competition of the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. Ziegler’s western etchings and monoprints were included in The Cowboy in American Prints, published in 1985 by Ohio University Press. His work is held in the collections of The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Great Plains Art Museum, Smithsonian Institution, National Portrait Gallery, and Georgetown University. Henry Ziegler died in New York City.
