Description
Magnificent 22k/14k micro-mosaic necklace and earrings, in addition with what appears to be a belt buckle.
It would be hard to exaggerate the rarity of this item, I have never seen a set like this, it is probably 18th century or very early 19th century. The chains and ends test 22k, the backs of the earrings have 14k screw backs attached to them, there is a piece missing which I guess was a brooch. There is a necklace, a pair of earrings and what appears to be a small belt buckle.
One of the highly unusual aspects of this set is that rims or bezels which hold in the mosaic pictures is always black onyx. In this set, the framing stone is Lapis Lazuli, or sodalite, something very unusual and something in my lifetime I have not seen ever, in an antique shop or museum. My guess is this set is 18th century. The gold wires between the pieces has the style and appearance of 18th century American Federal period gold work(circa 1790 in the 13 colonies like Boston, New York and parts of Virginia). However the manufacture is most certainly Italy. There are small European gold marks in necklace, that are consistent with gold marks that you see in Europe and Italy in the late 18th century.
See the photos. There are green threads tied where the gold is worn very thin, but is not broken, the green thread as a precaution so that if the gold broke the piece would remain attached.
