Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery double flute bearing a pair of cylindrical tubes connected along the topside. The front of each tube features four perforated tone holes that enabled the musician to adjust the pitch of each played note. Perched along the midsection are two petite birds with stylized avian features, and the mouthpiece along the back has two separate air holes. The highly burnished exterior surfaces exhibit both brown and black hues that are pleasing to observe. Size: 10.375" L x 1.7" W (26.4 cm x 4.3 cm)

Condition
Repaired from two large pieces with resurfacing and light overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions and encrustations. Nice earthen deposits. Flute still produces sound but is not fully playable due to repairs.
