Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A beautiful Olmec maskette pendant, finely carved with an expressive visage from a beautiful greenstone of lovely mottled green and pink hues. The face is string-cut and presents characteristic Olmec features, such as almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose, large, flap-like ears, and a down-turned mouth. A suspension hole is hand drilled through the top, allowing this ancient pendant to be strung and worn, if so desired! The verso is concave with a shallow groove. The visage is a classic form of Olmec style, likely representing a nature spirit or deity. Size: 1.375" L x 1" W (3.5 cm x 2.5 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
