**First Time At Auction**

Southeast Asia, modern day Vietnam, Anamese (sometimes Annamese), ca. 15th to 17th century CE. A modestly sized porcelain teapot of a bulbous circular form with an attenuated spout and a stylish strap-handle off its verso. The vessel is painted in the traditional blue-on-white method with finely detailed sea creatures imposed upon its upper register. To one side of the spout lies a crab with legs partially buried in sand, crawling his way towards the lid atop. To the other side of the spout is a lobster and an intriguing prawn. Octopus tentacles hang ornately from the spout's edges like draped sea moss - a finely articulated and poetic composition. The vessel features a stout, concaved neck, with a flat lid opening including an accompanying lid. Size: 8" W x 6.5" H (20.3 cm x 16.5 cm)

Wonderfully preserved. Light fading to painted decoration. Otherwise in excellent condition with nice craquelure scattered throughout. A beautiful piece.
