The Billiard Game by Jean Carolus (1814-1897) is a beautiful oil on canvas depicting a scene of a group of eight people at people and two dogs entertaining and playing pool. Carolus has many paintings with unique titles and this is one of them. The painting is signed lower middle left by Jean Carolus. Painting is dated 1859 and comes in nice period gold molded wood frame. A true collector painting. This particular painting has sold several times at prior auction reaching over $14,000 in 2011. Dimensions: 37" x 44". Active in Belgium, Carolus is known for his detailed interior and figurine paintings. Condition
Overall good studio condition. Viewed via naked eye and under UV light. Painting has been relined and cleaned with some minimal retouching, minor rubbing. Some loss on frame.
