A hand tooled wood urn vessel that is painted with brightly-colored lacquers with a design of the Buddha and deer.A tooled wood urn is adorned with a striking and colorful design of Buddha holding a string of white prayer beads, and wearing a red and turquoise robe. Two deer facing each other are on the back of the urn. The urn has colorful borders at the mouth and on the pedestal base. There are traces of lacquer on the mouth rim. Lathe marks are visible on the mouth and interior.MEASUREMENTS7” (17.8 cm) tall x 6 ¾” (17.1 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 10.3 oz (745 g)CONDITIONThere is extensive pigment loss from age and use. The Buddha’s face still shows well and you can still make out the deer fairly well. There are cracks in the wood on both sides of one of the deer. There is also a good-sized chip near the shoulder. These are very old damages. There is one small chip on the mouth rim. The urn has a nice aged patina to the wood and surface. It may have had a lid at one time.A very old Tibetan work of folk art.
