Description
**First Time At Auction**
Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience ushabti standing in mummiform atop an integral plinth, all covered with a sky-blue glaze. The figure holds a pick and hoe in arms crossed atop the chest and has a faintly visible seed bag behind the left shoulder. The slender visage features almond eyes, a perky nose, teardrop ears, and petite lips, all framed within the lappets of the tripartite wig. A T-shaped column of hieroglyphs is impressed in front of the legs and around the waist, perhaps indicating the name and job title of the deceased. Size: 1.125" W x 4.6" H (2.9 cm x 11.7 cm)
Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s

Condition
Nicks to nose, face, feet, and implements held in hands, with softening to impressed hieroglyphs and some finer details, very light pitting, fading to glaze in scattered areas, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Great remains of glaze pigment throughout. Old inventory label on verso.
