JEAN BAPTISTE CLESINGER (FRENCH, 1814-1883) BRONZE BUST, C. 1860-1880 H 32", W 16", HELEN OF TROY Depicting Helen of Troy wearing a crown and absentmindedly admiring one strand of a three strand pearl necklace. Inscribed on verso "J. Clesinger, Rome, 1860 and F. Barbedienne. Fondeur". Depth 10". Renaissance brown patina highlighted with gold. This work is a precursor to the a full length sculpture sculpture by Clesinger at the Paris Salon of 1864. Provenance: From a Grosse Pointe Shores, MI estate.
