Palmer Chrisman was born in 1913, and grew up in Austin, Texas. He began painting when he returned to Texas after his military service in World War II. Chrisman had established himself as a successful doctor when he began painting and traded medical services for art lessons with Texas landscape painter Porfirio Salinas. Salinas became a major influence on Chrisman's style. Chrisman's paintings portray the beauty of the Texas Hill Country. His subjects often included fields of bluebonnets and rolling hills, the changing leaves of fall and the foliage reflected in the water of the Guadalupe river. The late President Lyndon B. Johnson once ordered thirty of Chrisman's paintings to be given as Christmas gifts from the White House. Chrisman's art can be found in both private and public collections around the country.
