Description
A Kuba Ceremonial Cup Democratic Republic of Congo, 19th to early 20th century In shape of a human leg and foot supporting a pot-shaped bowl. Carved wood with an oily black patina, sticky in places. The foot with toenails depicted, a barrel-shaped leg with vertical slats, the exterior of the bowl with an intricate linear braid design. In very good condition, a 1 inch diameter scrape on exterior of bowl, a stable crack on the foot, small chips off rim. These marks of use and the deep patina indicate long native use as a ritual or ceremonial vessel.
