Oil and gouache on Masonite, 1953. 1022x763 mm; 40¼x30¼ inches. Signed and dated in oil, lower right recto.Ex-collection private collection, Chicago.Born in Moscow, Refregier (1905-1979) emigrated to the United States in 1920. He was active in the 1930s and 1940s in the Federal Art Project, WPA, and during this time created his controversial mural in the Rincon Annex Post Office, San Francisco, depicting the history of San Francisco.
