Two Effigy Ladles
Eastern Great Lakes Woodlands, circa 1820
(left) Abstract figured maple effigy ladle, likely in the form of two otters playing. A nearly identical example (though without the chip carved detail) is in the collection of Winterthur and pictured in Treasury of American Design and Antiques, Hornung, p.478, fig.1689.
(right) Abstract effigy ladle (possibly in the form of a Manitou). The shaped end carved in a simple, but engaging manner.
(2) l. 9 11/16 in. (tallest)
