Description
One of a kind and very impressive brass and wood shipbuilders plaque and recovery plaque! The brass center is the original Hugh Ramsay shipbuilders plaque from the S.S. Cordova built in 1896. The S.S. Cordova was a gun boat purchased by the country of Columbia. The Columbian Navy was an important factor in that countries civil war in 1899 to 1902. The Hugh Ramsay Ship & Engine Builders Company located in Perth Amboy, New Jersey has a checkered past. Despite this the Columbian Navy purchased multiple ships from the company according to known historical information. It is likely much more history about the S.S. Cordova can be discovered, adding to the mystique of this piece. The shipbuilder plaque was secured to a larger wood plaque in 1967. As noted on the wood plaque, the gun boat plaque was Found In The United Kingdom In The County of Norfolk 1967. The wood section of the plaque has a mounting bracket on the back. Overall it measures approximately 13.25 by 14.5 inches with a thickness of 2 inches. The plaque weighs a little over 10 pounds. Guaranteed authentic and quite unusual.
