Tanner's landmark map of the United States as it was in 1838, extending beyond the Mississippi into present Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, etc., as issued in the original half morocco folder. The map includes fine detail of the eastern portion of the recently independent Republic of Texas (labeled Part of Texas), showing counties and grants, among them Houston, Travis, Harrisburg, Washington, Jefferson, Liberty, San Antonio, Gonsales, Labac, Matagorda, and Cumanche, etc. There are 16 insets including city plans and environs, the southern portion of Florida, Oregon and the Mandan District, etc. Also, there are profiles, sections, and a table of statistics of the United States. The pictorial cartouche features two deer in the woods.
