Four views are by Muybridge, published by Bradley & Rulofson in The Modoc War series, on yellow mounts. Two views are by Watkins, published by him in his Pacific Coast series, on red mounts. The mounts measure 8.7x17.8 cm (3½x7").
Photographic record of this armed conflict between the Native American Modoc people and the United States Army in northeastern California and southeastern Oregon from 1872 to 1873. These are rare examples of contemporaneously published photographs of one of the many wars between the U.S. military and Native Americans, taken while the fighting was ongoing.
