Measures 10"x3 1/2"x5 3/4". Weight 2 pds 3 oz. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate. REFERENCE: P. Ipsens Enke by Kathrine Jørgensen. p. 192, these animal figures are discussed. Niels Norvil produced several items for the factory at the beginning of 1900, e.g. a series of prehistoric monsters (dinosaurs) in burnt-black terracotta. They are noted in the factory book with number and titled, but never came in the sales catalogues. In 1913, the Geological Museum in Copenhagen purchased a set of these figures and in 1914 they were at The Baltic Exhibition in Malmö, according to Skonvirke, 1915, p. 36. A collection of these terra cotta figures can also be found at the Danish Skolemuseum in Copenhagen.
