Biography: Born: 1956. Juan Carlos Breceda (Mexico, 1956) graduated from the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking "La Esmeralda" in Mexico City and from the Popular School of Fine Arts in Morelia, Michoacán. He began exhibiting in Mexico City, doing several private showings as well as shows at a well-known gallery in Lomas. Now, he successfully exhibits in the United States, South America, and Europe. He has won many national prizes, including the 1997 National Contest of Drawing and Painting at the National Auditorium Gallery in Mexico City, as well as many recognition awards for his work with the community. Well received by interior designers and gallerists, most of his work is COBRA-style, mixed media on paper, although he had made a limited number of signed and numbered lithographs, as well as canvas and murals. Applying rough brushstrokes of contrasting colors and discarding depth or perspective, he creates simple forms filled with energy, in compositions where women and animals are the main characters. A woman is repeated: steady gaze, pronounced eyelashes, enormous red lips, elongated bluish nose and harsh features that do not diminish her softness and sensuality. His typical countryside animals such as bulls, horses, roosters and elephants, convey simplicity in a real but at the same time magical world.
