NEW ENGLAND PAINT-DECORATED SYCAMORE MAGICIAN'S CHEST, hinged lid with applied moldings, opening to an open storage, fitted with strap hinges and two cabinet locks, the nailed case mounted with an iron bail handle to each end, and applied base moldings. Original bold grain-painted surface to exterior and lid interior. Traces of tack holes to perimeter of lid interior, probably from posting show broadsides as the lid would have been open during performances. First half 19th century. 17 3/4" H, 35 1/4" W, 18" D.
Very good overall condition, section of lid molding replaced, short crack and marring to lid, minor warpage, one lock keeper stuck in lock.
