Waterman No. 552 fountain pen, 9K gold barrel and cap with line and dot pattern, cartouche engraved: "Sir John Hammerton / Jan. 1st 1932." Lever-filler. 135mm. Waterman's Ideal keyhole-vent nib, medium or better flex, English. Very fine condition, ding to endpiece, rubbing to lever, cap sticks a bit, otherwise perfect. Provenance: Sir John Alexander Hammerton was a writer, editor mand journalist, and is described by the Dictionary of National Biography as "the most successful creator of large-scale works of reference that Britain has known."
