Hiroshi Sugimoto (1948) is a Japanese photographer and architect. He leads the Tokyo-based architectural firm New Material Research Laboratory. Using likenesses made by the artisans of Madame Tussaud's wax museum, Sugimoto, using period lighting, created a series of portraits substituting photography for painting.
