Title: 19th C Chinese Rose Medallion Reticulated PlateSize: 8” (20.3 cm) diameter x 7/8” (2.2 cm) deep.Description: A colorful Chinese porcelain plate with a molded reticulated cavetto that has been hand painted with gilding and a rose color palette. The panels on the well alternate between particularly finely painted landscape painting and reserves with roses, birds and fruit. The two panels with landscape scenes are small works of art. Leaves, fruit and flowers surround the reserve panels. The reticulated cavetto is gilded. The front of the plate is nearly entirely covered with fine decorations. The underside is just white. The plate is thinly potted and has a cut, unglazed foot and glazed base. The base has no marks or labels. MEASUREMENTS 8” (20.3 cm) diameter x 7/8” (2.2 cm) deep. Weighs 9.4 oz (270 g) CONDITION There is a repair which shows up on the underside. You can see the old yellow aged glue that was never cleaned up well. It doesn’t show on the front surface because of the pattern, except for one place near the rim where a tiny chip of glaze is missing. There is only light wear to the gilding. The glazes look fresh and bright. There are kiln flaws like grit on the foot, and black spots and glaze spots on the base. The upper surface of the plate looks highly decorative and entire. A richly adorned decorative Chinese plate from the beginning of the rose medallion production. It will add age and substance to your home.
