Of the many artists who fly under the radar in San Francisco, Pedro Jimenez (born Spain) is one of the more interesting. His little-seen labor-intensive drawings of the 1970s evoke graphic novels, midnight movies and underground cartoons. The cafe scene in this group recalls the subcultural nocturne of the 1970s, fixing its gaze on two leather-helmeted weirdos, and a woman hiding behind dark sunglasses even though it's night.
In the other ink drawing, the artist stylizes the organs inside the female body as if to say, nothing, not even the unreachable parts of our physical selves, can evade his pop surrealism.Education: Ecole Nationale Superieure de Beaux Arts, Paris, 1968-1971
Works held : Smithsonian Museum of Art, Renwick gallery; Sara Roby Collection; Raymond Saunders Collection; Terry Dintenfass Collection
