Description
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fine cast-brass statue depicting Kubera (also Jambhal, Jambhala), the god of wealth and an emanation of Avalokitesvara, sitting atop an integral plinth. Kubera is depicted in regal clothing with a decorated robe, flowing armbands, corded shoulder covers, an intricate pectoral, large earrings, and a grandiose headdress capped with a flaming ushnisha finial. His right hand holds a jambura fruit, and his left holds a Nakula mongoose which spits beads as evidenced by the lengthy chain below the animal. Size: 7.25" W x 9.625" H (18.4 cm x 24.4 cm)
