A book personally owned by future Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard P. Feynman (1918-1988), and signed by him as "R.P. Feynman" on the front loose endpaper, ca. 1960. The hardcover copy of William L. Shirer's "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany" (New York: Simon and Schuster, 1960) is the ninth printing. A label from Vroman's Bookstore (Pasadena, California) is affixed to the front paste down (Feynman was a professor of physics at Caltech between 1950-1988.) Publisher's cloth with marginal rubbing to the spine ends. Scattered wrinkles, isolated stains, and overall light toning to the inner pages, else clean, bright, and near fine. Feynman's personal and professional associations to this book exploring the advent and collapse of Nazism are quite interesting. Feynman was ethnically Jewish on both sides; did he read this book to learn more about what had happened to fellow Jews in Europe?
